Frequently asked questions
- How is PCP different from HP on this calculator?
- Hire purchase (HP) finances the full amount after your deposit until you own the car. PCP adds an optional final payment (often called GFV or balloon), set here as a % of the car price. Your monthly payments cover the difference between price, deposit, and that final payment, plus interest — same amortisation maths as our HP tool on that net amount.
- Is the final payment the same as the guaranteed future value?
- We treat your “final payment %” as the optional purchase payment at the end if you want to keep the car — in line with how many lenders quote GFV as a % of list price. Real agreements may fix GFV in pounds; always check your contract.
- What if I hand the car back?
- You may owe nothing more than agreed charges if the car meets condition and mileage rules — this calculator assumes you pay the optional final payment to keep the car, so total payable includes it.
