Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about how FuelNearby works — and why drivers use it alongside other fuel price apps and sites.
Common questions
What is FuelNearby?
FuelNearby helps you compare live petrol and diesel prices at forecourts across the UK. Use the interactive map to see stations near you (or anywhere you pan to), check prices by fuel type, and explore guides and tools like the fuel fill calculator — all in your browser.
Do I need to install an app?
No. FuelNearby runs in your web browser on phones, tablets, and desktops. Add it to your home screen if you like, but there's nothing to download from an app store. That means no install friction and you always get the latest version when you visit the site.
Is FuelNearby free?
Yes — it's free to use. We may show lightweight analytics to keep the service reliable and improve the product; we don't charge you to view prices or use the map. See our Privacy Policy for how data is handled.
Why does the site ask for location permission?
Location helps us centre the map on where you are and sort nearby stations by distance — so you see relevant prices faster. It's optional: you can deny access and still use FuelNearby by searching for a place or moving the map manually.
We don't sell your location. For more detail, read our Privacy Policy.
How up to date are the prices?
Prices come from official retailer data feeds and are updated on a regular schedule (often around hourly for many stations). Network delays or feed issues can occasionally mean a price on screen differs slightly from the pump — always check the display at the forecourt before you pay.
A price looks wrong. What should I do?
Retailers are responsible for the prices they publish. If something seems off, double-check at the station and, if needed, contact the brand directly. You can also tell us — it helps us spot feed or display issues.
FuelNearby vs the competition
Lots of apps and websites show fuel prices. Here's a straight comparison — typical patterns we see elsewhere vs what FuelNearby is built for.
| FuelNearby | Typical competition |
|---|---|
| Runs in your browser — no app store, no install. You always get the latest version when you visit. | Often tied to a native app: download, updates, and sometimes accounts before you can compare prices. |
| UK-first: map, location pages, motorways & local areas — built for how UK drivers actually fill up. | Generic global tools or thin UK bolt-ons — same UI everywhere, less depth for UK roads and pricing. |
| One place for the map, guides & blog, and the fill calculator— compare and plan without hopping between apps. | Map-only or price-only: fewer articles, tools, or context when you want to dig deeper than a list. |
| Independent product — small team, fast fixes, UX that favours clarity over clutter. | Bigger orgs: more features on paper, but slower change and heavier, ad-heavy experiences. |
Other services have their strengths too; we're not here to trash anyone — we're here to earn your trust every visit.
