MPG to miles per litre

Turn UK MPG into miles per litre (what you care about at the pump) and L/100 km for EU-style comparisons.

Related: Litres to gallons, Fuel Trip Calculator.

UK fuel economy is usually quoted as miles per imperial gallon (MPG). At the pump you buy litres, so miles per litre (MPL) is often easier to reason about. We also show the EU-style L/100 km figure.

Converted figures

Frequently asked questions

What MPG does this use?
UK figures: miles per imperial gallon. That is miles driven per UK gallon (4.54609 litres), which is what manufacturers quote for cars sold in Britain. It is not the same as US MPG, which uses a smaller US gallon.
How do you get miles per litre?
Divide MPG by litres per imperial gallon: MPL = MPG ÷ 4.54609. Equivalently, miles per litre tells you how far one litre of fuel will take you at that efficiency.
What is L/100 km?
Litres consumed to drive 100 kilometres — common on European fuel labels and trip computers. Lower numbers mean better economy. It is directly comparable across vehicles when you want a single metric in litres.
