- A UK (imperial) gallon is 4.54609 litres. A US liquid gallon is smaller: 3.78541 litres. Fuel economy in Britain has traditionally used imperial gallons; US MPG uses US gallons — the numbers are not interchangeable without converting.
- Why do UK pumps show litres?
- Petrol and diesel have been sold by the litre in the UK for many years. Gallon figures still appear in older car specs and some conversations, so converting between litres and gallons stays useful.
- How accurate is this calculator?
