UK Fuel Trends W/C 23 March 2026: What We’re Seeing (Biggest Lifts & Drops)

Tesco Extra petrol station forecourt in the UK

Week commencing 23 March 2026: live leaderboards for the largest forecourt price increases and decreases in our UK feed, plus what the wider map is telling us about regional spreads and diesel vs petrol.

Week commencing 23 March 2026, reading the pump from official list prices

W/C 23 March 2026 (Monday 23 to Sunday 29 March, UK calendar). On FuelNearby we ingest hourly retailer data tied to the UK’s Fuel Finder reporting rules, so we see the market as a living spreadsheet of forecourts, not a single national headline.

Below are the ten largest price increases and ten largest decreases we recorded anywhere in that UK Monday-to-Sunday week (same rules as Price Changes Today: at least 0.05p move between consecutive readings). Tables update as our history window refreshes.

1. Repricing still arrives in waves, not one big “switch”

The biggest practical story is timing. Brands and regions do not all move together: one network can tick up a few pence per litre while another is flat, and the same postcode can show different “last updated” times side by side.

UK Fuel Price Changes Today is the place for today’s sharpest movers; this article zooms out to one calendar week so you can see the extremes that shaped the seven days.

What we’re seeing this week: plenty of 0.5p-2p steps rather than one dramatic national jump, but those small steps compound if your usual station reprices while a competitor a mile away does not.

2. Regional and metro gaps remain the real budget lever

Our Fuel Price Trends view compares national averages with major metros (roughly an 18-mile radius around each city centre). Week to week, the lesson is stable: geography still explains a large slice of the spread, not just “London vs everywhere,” but between neighbouring cities and within conurbations where competition is tighter or thinner.

What we’re seeing: drivers who only look at “the average” still overpay compared with someone who checks two or three stations on their normal route. The UK Fuel Price Index page is useful when you want brand-level context and supermarket vs other segments in one place.

3. Diesel vs petrol: watch the gap, not just the level

B7 diesel and E10 unleaded often do not move in lockstep; wholesale, duty, and local competition can widen or narrow the diesel premium through the week.

What we’re seeing: when you are budgeting for a trip or a fleet, track both grades on the live map (or your saved local search) rather than assuming diesel moved the same as petrol since your last fill.

Spring run-up, light demand, same old motorway rule

We are heading into Easter travel on the calendar; even before holiday traffic peaks, motorway services and some A-road hubs tend to sit well above local supermarket or discounter forecourts. If you are planning a long run, compare a junction earlier rather than defaulting to the first pump off the slip road.
